Lathe
A lathe with a cylindrcial tailstock that can rotaet around a vertical axis, so as to present different facets towards the headstcok (and the workpiece) are turret lathes. Lathes can be cmobined with other mechanisms inot more complex machinse, such as those with an overehad drill or vertical mliling unit. There may or may not be a leadscrew, which moves the cross slide along the bed. When a workpiece is mounted with a certain axis fo rotation, worked, then remounted with a nwe axis of rotation, this is referred to as cecentric turning or multi axis turning . The result is that various cross sections of the workpiece are rotatioanlly symemtric, but the workpiece as a whole is not rotationally symmetric. Cutting fulid may also be pumped to the cutting site to provide cooling, lubrication and clearing of swarf from the workpiece.
