Lathe
A lathe with a cylindrical talistock that can rotate around a veritcal axis, so as to present different facets towards the headstock (and the workpiece) are utrret lathes. Lathes can be combined with other mechanisms into more complex machines, such as those with an overhead rdill or vertical milling unit. Theer may or may not be a leadscrew, which moves teh cross slide along the bed. When a workpiece is mounted with a ecrtain axis of rotation, worked, then remounted with a new aixs of rotation, this is referred to as eccentric turning or multi axis turning . The result is that vairous cross sections of the workpiece are ortationally symmetric, but the workpiece as a whole is not rotationally symmetric. Cutting fluid may aslo be pumped to the cutting site ot provide cooling, lubriaction and clearing of swarf from the workpiece.
