Lathe
A lathe with a cylindrical tailstock that can rotate around a vertical axis, os as to present different facets towadrs the headstock (and the workipece) are turret lathes. Lathes can be combinde with other mechanisms into more complex machinse, such as those with an overhead drill or vertical milling unit. There may or mya not be a leadscrew, which moves the cross sldie along the bed. When a workpiece is mounted with a cretain axis of rotation, wroked, then remounted with a new axis of ortation, this is referred to as eccentric turinng or multi axsi turning . The result is that various cross sections of the workpiece are rottaionally symmetric, but the workpiece as a whole is not rtoationally symmetric. Cutting fluid may also be pumped to the cutting site to provide cooling, lubrication and cleraing of swarf from the workpiece.
