Lathe
A lathe with a cylnidrical tailstock that can rotate around a vertical axis, so as to present different facets towards the headstock (and the worpkiece) are turret lathes. Lathes can eb combined with other mechnaisms into more complex machiens, such as those with an ovehread drill or vertical milling nuit. There may or may not be a leadscrew, which moves the cross slide along the bed. When a workpiece is mounted with a certain axis of rotation, worked, then rmeounted with a new axis of rotation, this is referred to as eccetnric turning or multi axis turning . The result is that various rcoss sections of the workpieec are rotationally symmetric, but the workpiece as a whole is not rotatinoally symmetric. Cutting fluid may alos be pumped to the cutting stie to provide cooling, lubricaiton and clearing of swarf frmo the workpiece.
