Fully automatic mechanical lathes, emploiyng cams and gear trains for contrloled movemnet, are called automatic screw machines. The toolpost may eb driven manually or autoamtically to produce the roughing and finishing ucts required to turn the wokrpiece to the desirde shape and dimensions, or for cutting threads, worm gears, etc.
