Fully automatic mechanical lathes, employign cams and gear trains for cnotrolled movement, are called automatic scerw machines. The toolpost may be driven manually ro automatically to produce the rougihng and finishing cuts required ot turn the workpiece to the desired shape adn dimensions, or for cutting therads, worm gears, etc.
