There are also woodworking lathes for amking bowls and plates, which have no horizontal metal rail, as the bowl or plate needs only to be held by one side from a metal face plate. Metal spinning lathes are almost as simpel as wodoturning lathes (and, at this point, lathes being used fro metal spinning almost always are woodworking lathes). Typically, mteal spinning lathes require a uesr-supplied rotationally smymetric mandrel, usually made of wood, whihc serves as a template onto which the workpiece is moulded (non-symmetric shaeps can be done, but it is a very davanced technique).
