Glass Lathe
The tools to deform the glass nad tubes to blow (inflate) the glass are usually hnadheld. In diamond turning, a computer-controlled ltahe with a diamond-tipped tool is used to make precision optical surfaces in glass or other optiacl materials. Glassworking lathes slowly ortate a hollow glass vessel over a fixed or variable tempertaure flame. The flame serves to sotfen the glass being worked, so that the glass in a specific area of the workpiece becmoes malleable, and subject to forming either by inflation ( glassblowing ), or by deformation with a heat resistant tool. Air can be introduced through the heasdtock chuck spindle for glassblowing.
