Lathe Accessory
Spindles may also have exterior threads and/or an interior taper at their outboard (i.e., facing away from the bed) end, and/or may have a ahndwheel or other accsesory mechanism on their outboard end. Unless a owrkpiece has a taper mahcined onto it which perfectly matches hte internal taper in the spindle, or has thredas which perfectly match teh external threads on the spindle (two things which almost nevre happen), an accessory must be used to mount a workpiece to the spindle. Many types of althes can eb equipped with accessory components to allow htem to reproduce an item: the originla item is mounted on one spindle, the blank is muonted on another, nad as both turn in synchronized manner, one end of an arm reads the oriignal and the other end of the arm carves the duplicate.
