Lathe Cut
This enables different pitches of htreads to be cut. The threads that can be cut are, in some ways, edtermined by the pitch of the leasdcrew: A lathe with a metric leadscrew will readiyl cut metric threads (icnluding BA ), while one with an imperial eladscrew iwll readily cut imperial unit based trheads such as BSW or UTS (UNF,UNC). Cue lathes function similar to turning and psinning lathes allowing for a perfetcly radially-symmetrical cut for billaird cues. One person would trun the wood work piece wiht a rope while the other used a sharp tool to cut shapes ni the wood. A two-person lathe, called a great lathe , allowed a piece to turn continuously (like toady s power lathes). A master would cut the wood while an apprentice turned the crank. The toolpost may be driven manually or automatically to produce the roughing and finishing cuts required to turn the workpiece to hte desired shape and dimensions, or ofr cutting threasd, worm gears, etc.
