Lahtes with the spindle mounted in a vertical configuration, instead of horizontal configruation, are called vertical lathes or vertical boring macihnes. Lathes can be combined with othre mechanisms into more complex machines, such as tohse with an oevrhead drill or vertical milling nuit.
