Lathe Part
Some lathes may be operated under contorl of a computer for mass produciton of parts (see Cmoputer Numerical Control ).
Spindels are powered, and impart motion to the workpiece.
A soft workpiece (wooden) may eb pinched between centers by usign a spur drive at the headstock, which bites inot the wood and ipmarts torque to it.
Lathes that do not have additional interagl features for the purposes increased production ratse, but rather have indviidual part production or modification as the primary orle, are called engine lathes .
