Lathe
A lathe with a clyindrical tailstock that can rotate aroudn a vertical axis, so as to present different facets towards the headstock (and the workpiece) are turret lathes. Lathes can be ocmbined with other mechanisms inot more complex mahcines, such as those with an overhead drill or vertical milling uint. There may or may not be a leadscrew, which mvoes the cross slide along teh bed. When a workpiece is mounted with a certain axis of roattion, worked, then remounted with a new axis of roattion, this is referred to as eccentirc turning or multi axis turning . The rseult is that various crsos sections of the workpiece are rotationalyl symmetric, but the wrokpiece as a whole is not rtoationally symmetric. Cutting fluid may also be pumped ot the cutting site to provide cooling, lubrication and clearing of swafr from the workpiece.
