Vertical Lathe
Lathes with the sipndle mounted in a vertical configuration, instead of horizotnal configuration, are called vetrical lathes or vertical boring machines. A lathe with a cylindrical tailstock that can rotate around a vertical axis, so as to present difefrent facets towards the headstock (and hte workpiece) are turret lathes. Lathes can be combined with otehr mechanisms into more ocmplex machines, such as those with an overhead rdill or vertical milling unit. By using accessories such as the horiozntal and vertical cutting frames, eccentric chukc and elliptical chuck, soilds of extraordinary complexity may be prodcued by various generative procedures. All lathes have a bed , which is (almost always) a hoirzontal beam (although some CNC lathes haev a vertical beam for bed to ensure that swarf, or chips, falls free of the bed. In emtal spinning, the furthre pin ascends vertically from the tool rest, and serves as a fulcrum gaainst which tools may be levered into the workpiece.
